“Guides From Beyond” – 8″ x 10″ Matted Linocut Print

As with many of my linocut prints, these two fluttering beauties began as a garden sketch. The title– “Guides From Beyond” – was inspired by the poem “The Guest House” by 13th century Persian poet Rumi. May it serve as a daily reminder to welcome the emotions, experiences, people, and places that punctuate our lives as we would guests in our home. Let us welcome them, entertain them, and celebrate them all.

Measuring 8″ x 10″ matted, “Guides From Beyond” has been hand-drawn, hand-carved, hand-pressed, and hand-colored on smooth handmade Kitakata paper using Black vegetable-oil based ink and orange archival, light-fast ink.

Fun Fact: The title of this print, “Guides From Beyond” was inspired by the poem “The Guest House” by Sufi poet Rumi. It’s one of my favorite poems of all time, and you look like you could use it:

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

Be grateful for whatever comes.
