Fun Fact: When the original Lewis School burnt down in the early 1900s, the fine folk of Excelsior Township came together for a community “barn raising.” Barn raising, which was particularly common in 18th and 19th century rural North America, is a collective action of a community in which a barn – or schoolhouse – is rebuilt together.
