Kalkaska county boasts over 80 inland lakes and 275 miles of streams and rivers. Lately I’ve been acquainting myself with the fish that make up these extensive waterways that surround the schoolhouse. I carved this block and printed this card after reading about the Chinook Salmon. Like the salmon who can survive in both fresh and salt water, may we too find within ourselves the adaptive potential to go on breathing when our environments become harsh and forbidding.  Just as the salmon returns thousands of miles upstream to its birthplace to spawn, may we too find the tirelessness within ourselves to continue ever onward and homeward, even against the current.
